Application of Wisman High Voltage Power Supply in Avalanche Photodiode Field
Time:2024-01-27    Author:Wisman    Hits:1074

An avalanche photodiode (APD) is a photodiode type in a photodetector. Compared to ordinary photodiodes,

APD applies a high voltage to improve light sensitivity. Applying a high voltage can cause an avalanche

phenomenon, which amplifies the signal. This allows a highly sensitive signal to be obtained even in low light.

The most distinctive feature of Wisman's APDs is that they use a p-incidence structure. Most other companies

use N-incidence structures, especially short-wavelength light, where carriers are generated before the avalanche

layer and do not reach the depletion layer, so the avalanche effect cannot be 100% achieved and the sensitivity

decreases.

On the other hand, Wisman uses a precision P-incidence structure so that carriers generated by incoming light

near the surface can enter the avalanche layer with 100% certainty. There are no lattice defects in the crystal, so

it is a low noise device. In addition, since a stable P-layer can be formed, the avalanche voltage variation of each

device can be suppressed.

Main applications:

Detector (FPD)
